WATCH: Rangers icon joins in Ibrox celebrations after Europa League joy

Rangers icon Ally McCoist has long been regarded as one of the best pundits on TV but the club’s record scorer let the pundit mask slip last night as he got carried away in the euphoric aftermath of the Light Blues booking their place in the Europa League final.

As the players soaked up the adulation from the packed Ibrox stands, McCoist was caught on BT Sport’s cameras enjoying the win as much as any punter in the Copland or Enclosure.

As host Darrell Currie and Kenny Miller looked on, McCoist was absolutely loving life partying alongside 50,000 other Rangers fans.

After goals from James Tavernier, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram sealed the win, McCoist was emotional as he hailed the electric Ibrox atmosphere, saying: “I’ve been to some big European nights – Bayern Munich, Dynamo Kiev, Leeds United. This is the best.

“Nine years ago we were playing East Stirling in the Third Division, now we’re in a European final.

“Last season was sensational, winning the title undefeated was immense but this is another level.

“It’s only the second semi-final in 50 years and playing against one of the top teams in Europe. It’s unbelievable what these players have achieved.

“Tactically Gio van Bronckhorst got it absolutely spot on. A couple of things went against him with Aribo and Jack having to go off and not Roofe or Ramsey. Is that spirit or is that spirit?

“The first person I thought of was Walter – and Jimmy too – they’ll be having a wee dram and a cuddle.

“I’m actually a bit shocked. I came here full of hope but I realised we were playing a top side.

“But with organisation, a lot of spirit and ability it’s amazing what you can achieve.

“I never thought Rangers would get to a European final such are the finances these days, so it shows you the level of this achievement.”

BT Sport NEED to get McCoist commentating on Rangers’ Europa League final clash with their third German opponent of the season.
