News of Rangers’ move for Bowley – who worked to implement a tactical methodology across all of the City Groups clubs including Man City, NYCFC and Melbourne City – broke earlier in the summer but there were some particulars to be sorted before the deal was finalised.
Rangers have now confirmed the appointment of the prestigious backroom staffer with early reports suggesting Ceri Bowley would have a “wide ranging” role within the club.
Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the game with Kilmarnock this weekend, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst expanded on what the coach will bring to Ibrox.
Specifically, van Bronckhorst discussed the role of Ceri Bowley in identifying areas where the team and players can improve and speeding up the development of the club’s stars.
“I worked with Ceri a couple of years ago and built up a good relationship with him and I am happy that he’s joining my staff and helping me and helping all of us to improve our players,” said van Bronckhorst.
“The players will work closely with him to make sure their development goes faster and we can identify all the areas we want to see improvement so I’m really happy that he joined us.”
Dr Ceri Bowley raring to go at Rangers
Dr Ceri Bowley becomes the fifth member of staff to come into the club since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took charge and joins Yori Bosschart (data analysis), Arno Phillips (fitness), Roy Makaay (coaching) and Dave Vos (assistant) in the Rangers backroom staff.
Bowley is also very excited to be on board with Rangers and took to social media to announce himself to the supporters and reveal he’s not the only one buzzing to be a Bear.
There can be no doubting that taking a coach of such substantial pedigree to the club represents an ambitious move by Rangers with fans eager to see what improvements Bowley can bring to the team.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ grumbles with the SPFL are highlighted by the latest news regarding a fresh TV deal.
