Rangers captain James Tavernier set a new club record in the 2-0 win over Aberdeen as he took his goal tally to 16 for the season – beating his own high for goals scored in a single season by a defender.
After hitting 15 goals in all competitions in his first season at the club, Tav has now managed to go one better after netting two penalties in the win over the Dons.
Since moving to Ibrox, Tavernier has managed 42 goals and 59 assists from 195 appearances which is a phenomenal record for a defender.
While his goalscoring stats are obviously boosted by the fact that he’s Rangers’ penalty taker, the skipper is unerringly accurate from 12 yards.
Tav’s double against Aberdeen leaves him only one goal behind Celtic’s £10million striker Odsonne Edouard in the league with 13 – and four behind Rangers team-mate Alfredo Morelos.
With three more games left in the season, hopefully, the former Newcastle defender can get a couple more goals – if only to end the season with more goals than Celtic’s all-time record signing.
