Smith thinks that success helped raise expectations at Ibrox last season as Gerrard’s side prepare to go through it all again starting next month.
“Reaching the group stages and doing so well in Europe probably raised the expectation levels of the fans,”
Smith told the Scottish Sun.

“You have to say that Rangers, in reaching the group stages last year, probably over-achieved.

“It was a new team, a new manager and I don’t think anyone expected them to go so far.”
Rangers face the same arduous task to reach the group stage this year and will get their qualifying campaign underway on July 11th.

The Gers return to pre-season training over the coming days before heading to Portugal for a training camp as they step up preparations.
Hopefully this season the Gers won’t find themselves going to the likes of Croatia and Macedonia in their bid to qualify for the group stages.
