Former Rangers defender Russell Martin has claimed that Rangers are in a much better place now because Steven Gerrard has taken Liverpool’s mentality to Ibrox.
In quotes attributed to the Daily Record, Martin was talking about Gerrard’s first year in charge. He spoke about an increase in confidence and a renewed self-belief.
And he believes much of that has drawn inspiration from Steven Gerrard’s old Premier League side.

“Rangers look like a side who have their confidence and belief back. Last season it just wasn’t there.
“They now have that back and it’s massively important for a club like Rangers with all the expectations they carry,” said the former Norwich City stopper.

“That stands them in really good stead going into the summer break
“There has been a culture change, it’s clear there is a change in the environment and Steven has brought that from Liverpool.”
Martin was part of the Rangers side which was led by Graeme Murty in the second half of last season. The big defender joined on-loan from Norwich but struggled at Ibrox.

The former Scotland international also claimed, “I never felt as though we had the confidence within the group”.

He believes that Steven Gerrard has transferred the Liverpool momentum onto Rangers. And whilst the Ibrox club is not quite there yet, Martin believes that we are seeing Gerrard’s side “slowly by surely develop”.
Martin now plies his trade with MK Dons and is coming off the back of a fine season with the League One outfit.
