Reserves beat Celtic to go top of the league with two games left

Rangers reserves have recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Celtic today to put themselves within touching distance of the SPFL Reserve League title.
Glenn Middleton’s two second-half goals secured the three points for Graeme Murty’s side and leaves them knowing that wins in their next two games will seal the title.

The Gers face Hamilton and Falkirk in their final fixtures and leaving Celtic needing a big swing in goal difference – assuming both sides win their final two games.

First-team players Matt Polster and Andy Firth were both involved for the young Gers but it was Cammy Palmer and Middleton who stole the show for the Light Blues.

Murty’s side were the better side over the course of the 90 minutes and deservedly took the lead when Middleton fired the Gers in front after 52 minutes.
The winger rounded off a fantastic counter-attacking move before grabbing a second in the final few moments to seal the three points.

It’s been a really impressive season for the reserves this year after the change from an under-20 group and a number of the Gers players are still only 16 or 17.
With a Glasgow Cup final still to come as well it could end with the young Gers lifting the double as they look to impress Steven Gerrard and get the chance to impress in the first-team.
