While Rangers may be starting to get over their exit from the Europa League, news coming from yesterday’s draw will still have them wondering what might have been.

With some big teams dropping down from the Champions League for the last 32, glamour ties were always going to be on offer.

Naturally, one of them fell to Rangers’ conquerors, Rapid Vienna.

They were drawn against three-time European Cup and three-time UEFA cup winners, Inter Milan.

In effect, the draw almost rules out Rapid’s chance of progression in the tournament. Inter are currently sitting third in Serie A, while Rapid are 8th in the Austrian Bundesliga.

They received an absolute hiding at the hands of fiercest rivals, Austria Vienna at the weekend. With that in mind, who knows what Mauro Icardi and co will do to them at the San Siro.

However, it will be a massive occasion for the club and one that Rangers came so close to earning for themselves.

Imagine the noise at Ibrox if Inter were in town. That really would signal the return of the glory days.

An away trip to their 80,000-seater stadium wouldn’t have been bad either

Alas, it wasn’t to be this year.

However, this should serve as motivation for next season. That last push to make it out of the group comes with huge rewards. Not only financially, but with dream fixtures like this one.
