Rangers will beat Midtjylland claims former Denmark international

Former Denmark international Stig Tofting has slammed a former Celtic player and written off Rangers’ Europa League qualifying opponents, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Just yesterday, Rangers Reserves coach and fellow Dane, Peter Lovenkrands, built up the threat posed by FC Midtjylland [Rangers.co.uk].

He described them as a ‘very good team’ and one of the powerhouses of Danish football.

Yet, it appears that Tofting has got an entirely different impression.
Despite FCM winning all four Superliga matches so far this season [Soccerway], he was dismissive of their chances and highly critical of one of their most experienced players, Erik Sviatchenko.
The former Hoops centre-back was sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession, picked up shortly after half-time in a 1-0 win over Aalborg.

“Erik had a brain haemorrhage,” said Tofting as quoted by the Daily Record. “It was just foolish.”
“I find it incredible actually that a player like him who has played over 150 league matches lost his discipline in such a situation.”

“FCM have been concentrating on these games in the Europa League, but I don’t believe they have a chance of beating Rangers,” he continued. “The Scots will play the second leg in Glasgow and that’s a big advantage to them.”
It’s interesting to get two polar opposite assessments of Rangers’ upcoming opponents in the space of 24 hours.
Tofting’s rant should be exciting for Bears looking to book a trip to either Warsaw or Athens for the playoff rounds. Yet, it must be said his words don’t quite tally with the stats.

Midtjylland have only conceded once in four domestic fixtures this season and will be keen hold of their 100% record in competitive action.
It would be extremely naive of the Gers to underestimate the Danes and it’ll take a big effort over the two legs to secure progression.
