Rangers U16s hammer Wigan Athletic at Hummel Training Centre

Rangers U16s ran riot at the Hummel Training Centre on Saturday afternoon, hammering Wigan Athletic U16s 8-0.

It was a rare chance for the age-group side to tests themselves against a side from south of the border, and their response was emphatic.

In the first half, the visitors managed to keep things relatively tight, with a deflected strike from Robbie Ure and a composed finish from a trialist putting the Gers two up by the break [Rangers Youth Updates].

Much like their U18 counterparts in Inverness on Friday night, though, the U16s emerged for the second period hungry for more goals and promptly put the opposition to the sword.

Dire Mebude, who netted a hat-trick last weekend, played a big part in the next three goals. It was his ball across the box which found Adam Forrester at the back post to make it 3-0 before he grabbed two of his own courtesy of a firmly hit finish and a header.

With changes aplenty after the fifth goal went in, the youngsters could have been forgiven for taking their foot off the pedal.

Yet, Ure was having none of that.

He scored twice more, either side of a Leyton Dunlop effort, to secure a hat-trick and take the Gers to a whopping tally of eight goals to go alongside a clean sheet.

This scoreline serves as yet more evidence that this age-group side, who secured the SuperCup NI and the Albim Cup earlier in the season, is full of exceptionally talented players.
