Rangers have paid tribute to ex-Academy star Dylan Dykes as Pollok wear special t-shirts for the player following his cancer diagnosis.

Dykes, 26, came through the youth ranks at Ibrox but never played for the top team before moving to Ross County in 2016.

Now at West of Scotland Football League club Pollok fc, the midfielder has tragically been diagnosed with cancer and is currently going through treatment.

Ahead of Pollok’s Scottish Cup clash with Annan Athletic, the Glasgow club wore a special t-shirt in tribute to the striker and the feeling around Dylan Dykes appeared to inspire a historic victory.

Rangers send Dylan Dykes their best as Pollok Juniors progress in Scottish Cup

At Newlandsfield Park Pollok recorded a historic 4-3 victory over their SPFL rivals to progress into the next round of the cup but the sentiment was on something more serious before kick off.

“For those of you who are able to attend the match tonight and for those who may be watching on television you will see during the warm up that all of the Pollok players will be wearing tops with a public display of their support for teammate Dylan Dykes,” reads a Pollok Juniors statement.

“Unfortunately, Dylan has recently been diagnosed with cancer. His treatment started in the week before last and, despite that, he was at the match the following Saturday supporting his teammates.

“Dylan continues to be a valued member of the team and we look forward to him, once again, stepping on to the pitch in the black and white.

“It’s a terrible reminder of the indiscriminate nature of cancer and there will be many others around the game tonight who have, are, or will be affected by cancer but for tonight, let’s all take a moment to wish Dylan, his family and friends well, as no one faces this alone.

“From everyone associated with the Pollok family our thoughts are with you Dylan.”

Rangers then paid tribute to Dylan Dykes themselves by retweeting the Pollok statement on Twitter and sending their best wishes to the player and his family.

Everyone at Rangers News sends there best to Dylan Dykes and congratulates Pollok for their progress in the Scottish Cup.

Meanwhile, Rangers are facing up to 10 players out for their trip to Napoli this week.
