Rangers target Edmundson rejects new Oldham deal - report

Rangers have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson after he turned down the Latics’ offer of a new contract, according to the Daily Record.
The Gers had a bid of £400,000 for the defender rejected earlier this week but with news that he’s rejected an improved deal to stay at Boundary Park, Rangers could well move again.

The report also claims that Edmondson is “keen” on a move to Ibrox this summer and wants to leave Oldham this summer.

Steven Gerrard’s side needs at least one central defender to come in this summer with Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall both set to depart.

With only Niko Katic and Connor Goldson remaining, Gerrard can’t afford to go into the campaign with only two recognised central defenders.
Edmundson has made 79 appearances for the Oldham since breaking into the first-team and was voted into the English Football League’s League Two team of the year this season.
After Oldham endured their worst league campaign in half a century, they don’t seem keen on selling one of their prized assets but it seems like a move could eventually happen.

Edmundson has attracted a fair bit of interest from bigger clubs recently so Oldham look as though they will have to accept the inevitable and negotiate a transfer.
If Rangers can get him for around £500,000 then it could be another really shrewd defensive signing from the Gers under Gerrard.
