Leading Rangers fan media Heart & Hand have claimed that Robby McCrorie is anything but finished at Ibrox; even if a loan move next season seems likely.
The podcast’s host David Edgar was responding to reports in the media this week claiming McCrorie is set to exit Ibrox due to the current goalkeeping situation.
This comes with the 24-year-old having spent a season on the bench, minus that impressive showing v Celtic amid covid-19 issues in early season, and with Rangers extending the contract of Allan McGregor.
At McCrorie’s age, the youngster really needs to be playing and it’s interesting that Rangers appear to have this in mind regardless of reports suggesting a permanent exit.
It’s clear the club still believe that the young Scotland stopper has the potential to make it at Ibrox but for this season, it appears McCrorie’s development will be better served elsewhere.
“I’m led to believe that Robby McCrorie was always going out on loan and that his Rangers career is in no way finished,” said David Edgar, on the popular podcast’s Daily Update for 22/06/22.
“His contract is up at the end of next season, there were reports that Man United were interested in but that was denied by Rangers and Man United pretty quickly.
“If you’re going to take a flyer on a player, you’ve got to make it believable.
“Robby is a very good goalkeeper, whether or not he would’ve been playing next season I doubt it, and he would’ve been going out on loan regardless.”
Rangers still hold out Robby McCrorie hope amid exit reports
Robby McCrorie came through the Rangers youth ranks and has always been highly regarded by the club even if he has struggled to properly break into the team.
So far the goalie has had four loan stints out of the club, starting with Berwick Rangers before spells with Greenock Morton and Queen of the South.
Robby McCrorie also spent one season on loan at Livingston in the Scottish Premiership and it appears, whatever happens, the keeper won’t be with Rangers next season at least.
Speaking of Rangers’ transfer business, the Ibrox club have also been linked with a move for a Croatian international midfielder once tailed by Chelsea.
