Rangers skipper insists Gers stars are 'raring to go' ahead of title challenge

Rangers captain James Tavernier is confident the Light Blues are in a good position ahead of the new season getting started this weekend – as he insisted the defeat by Tottenham on Saturday was a “good learning curve” for Gio van Bronckhorst’s side.

The Light Blues face Livingston this weekend in their opening Premiership fixture and Tav admits the dressing room is “raring to go”.

Speaking after the 2-1 defeat by Spurs, Tav singled out John Lundstram for praise as he lauded the Premier League side’s attacking threat.

“The boys are ready,” Tavernier said [Rangers TV]. “There’s an in-house game on Sunday for the lads who need a little bit more minutes. So the boss is putting everything in place so everyone’s ready for the first game of the season, whoever’s in the starting line-up.

“The boys are raring to go this season. It’s a big year and we want to start it off really well.

“This is what we want to do. You want these tough tests.

“Especially when we have the Champions League games coming up, we want to play against the top teams.

“I don’t think there’s many teams out there with that calibre of counter-attacking football and the passing that Spurs have. The team defended for the majority of the game really well.

“I felt that John Lundstram did a great job in that pocket for us.

“We are obviously a bit disappointed with the outcome, but it’s a good learning curve and it will put us in a good position for the Livingston game.”
