Gio van Bronckhorst’s side already have friendlies against Partick Thistle, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur planned for this summer, and a trip to Blackpool will be a good opportunity for the Light Blues to step up their preparations.

Last summer, there was a similar friendly in the north-west of England with the Gers taking on Tranmere at Prenton Park early on in pre-season.

Rangers kick off the Premiership season when they travel to Livingston on July 30, seven days after the visit of Spurs, with the Light Blues travelling to Portugal at the beginning of July for a training camp.

Blackpool clash likely to see Rangers fringe players given a chance to impress

With a number of Rangers’ first-team stars having been away representing their national teams over the summer, the clash with Blackpool is likely to see some of van Bronckhorst’s fringe stars given a chance to impress.

Rangers B star Tony Weston could also get the chance to face his former club, joining Rangers from the Seasiders in 2020.

Thousands of Rangers fans will look to make the trip to the seaside town and see how the Light Blues are looking ahead of the new campaign and a crack at winning back the title.

Early suggestions are that the Light Blues will face Blackpool on July 16 with an announcement due from the clubs soon.

If Rangers do face Blackpool that day, there’s still one free midweek before the Spurs game for the Gers to organise another friendly.
