Rangers recent transfer activity could spell the end for Jack Simpson

Rangers’ interest in defenders such as Danilho Doekhi and John Souttar over the previous few months could have a lasting impact on the current squad, one such player that could feel the blow is Jack Simpson.

Simpson, who signed for Rangers in January 2021 under Steven Gerrard, hasn’t featured under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his chances of making the starting XI once the winter break is over are looking increasingly slim.

Following an injury to Leon Balogun in November, it seemed like Simpson would get his chance, yet it was Calvin Bassey who was slotted into the centre back slot to provide cover and has excelled thus far.

With Rangers showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to adding and retuning the squad under Gio, there will naturally be some players leaving the club.

As interest in Doekhi [TheScotsman] and Souttar [DailyRecord] heats up, with both players available to sign on pre-contract agreements this month, then it surely spells the end for Simpson.

The defender had played in the Premier League with Bournemouth and was seen as an exciting addition to the playing squad, it hasn’t quite worked out to plan for the 25-year-old.

There is interest in the player from a trio of English Championship sides according to The Telegraph and a move would suit both parties, whether it is a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Simpson can count himself slightly unlucky as he hasn’t really been given the chance to show his true potential. With more signings inevitable, especially to boost the backline, then it might not be long before he leaves the club.

Meanwhile, a former Rangers player has continued his impressive overseas form after notching yet another assist in a crucial win.
