Rangers youngster Kai Kennedy has been recalled from his loan spell at Championship side Dunfermline as he was omitted from the squad which drew 0-0 with Raith Rovers in the Fife derby.

The 19-year-olds spell at the Pars was disrupted by injury and Covid related absences, with Kennedy only featuring 14 times for the Fife-based side and failing to utilise his potential. He managed to score once, against Queen of the South in a 3-3 draw.

John Hughes spoke after the match and highlighted that it would have been nice to have the player available.

“I don’t think we will see Kai again, Rangers have done a recall, he’ll be going back there,” said Hughes [TheCourier].

“We missed him against Raith. It would have been nice to have him.

“I’m not saying he would have started but he might just have got a shot and could have given us a nice going-away present.” Said Hughes.

Kennedy is under contract at Rangers until 2023 and he is highly rated at the Ibrox side. Having featured for Inverness and Raith last season in two different loan spells, as well as Dunfermline this season, he has accumulated plenty of experience.

The main thing now is for the player to impress back at Rangers under the watchful eye of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and show the Dutchman he should be considered in his future plans.

The Scotland U21 international has fantastic potential, let’s hope that he can fulfill it at Rangers and feature for the first team in the next few years.

Meanwhile, £16m Nathan Patterson move could help secure talented quartet at Rangers.
