Rangers rearrange Napoli clash but travelling Ibrox fans left heartbroken

There will be no Rangers fans in the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona after the club came to arrangement regarding the rescheduling of this week’s Champions League fixture against Napoli.

The match will now take place 24 hours after originally scheduled with the game moving from Tuesday 13th September at 8pm to Wednesday 14th September at 8pm.

This is due to policing commitments following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who is being transported from Balmoral to London after her passing in Scotland.

Due to the monumental commitments of the police force during this extraordinary time the game has been moved to accommodate everyone involved.

However, this also means that there will be no Napoli fans at Ibrox Stadium for the match with Rangers fans subsequently locked out of the return in Naples in October.

This is to prevent the Gers being handed an unfair sporting advantage but it will come as a blow to those supporters desperate to see their side at the historic stadium.

It’s also a sting for anyone who has booked flights and accommodation.

Rangers will also offer refunds to those supporters impacted by the change in date, with the tickets originally for sale in the away end going on sale to supporters this week.

Rangers v Napoli Champions League rearranged

A Rangers statement reads:

“Rangers can today confirm the upcoming UEFA Champions League match with SSC Napoli at Ibrox has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 14 September at 8pm.

“This is due to the severe limitations on policing resources and organisational challenges related to the ongoing events surrounding the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Rangers, of course, recognise this switch in date will inconvenience a number of our loyal supporters, and refunds will be available to those unable to attend the match.

“Additionally, no away supporters will be present at the match, allowing the club to make additional tickets available to MyGers members as a priority.

“UEFA have also confirmed that as a matter of sporting integrity, no Rangers fans will be permitted to attend the return fixture in Naples.”

A MyGers priority ticket sale window will open from 10am Monday 12th September with the remaining briefs going on sale to the general public from 12pm Tuesday 13th September.

The Rangers U19s will also see their UFA Youth League clash with Napoli moved to the next day as well, with the match to take place at Firhill at 2pm on Wednesday 14th September.

Rangers have been sending a series of tributes after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II earlier this week.
