Rangers have informed supporters as to the reason why striker Kemar Roofe missed the defeat to Dundee United and have asked fans to “respect his privacy at this time”.

The popular striker, 28, missed the disappointing Arabs clash – which the Gers lost 1-0 – because his young child is in hospital.

Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard has previously said Roofe would miss the match due to a “family issue” with the above tweet clearly to dim any speculation on the matter. This is the same purpose of this article.

“Unfortunately Kemar Roofe dropped out last minute, he has got a family issue he is dealing with and we give him the full support on that,” explained Steven Gerrard to Sky Sports.

Everyone at Rangers News would like to wish the Roofe family all the best and a speedy recovery. Needless to say we encourage everyone to follow the club’s wishes at this time.

The absence of Roofe wasn’t the only which appeared to have a significant impact on the game with Rangers toiling at Tannadice.

Gerrard said pre-match that “unfortunately Hagi did not pull through for us, hopefully he has a chance for Tuesday.”

Rangers have now suffered back-to-back defeats following the 2-1 loss to Malmo FF in the first leg of their Champions League clash with the pressure mounting heading into Tuesday’s game.

However, the Dundee United clash was not a game Gerrard felt Rangers deserved to lose as he lamented his side’s lack of creativity.

“We’re disappointed obviously, it’s not the performance we were looking for and that’s on me, that’s on us on a group,” Gerrard told RangersTV.

“These boys have took me on an incredible run but to do that we’ve been at a really high level and unfortunately that wasn’t the case today.

“I don’t think going forward we’ve created enough but at the same time I don’t think we deserved to lose the game.

“But you always put yourself in that position for one breakaway or one lucky deflection like they got and the kids put the ball away pretty well.”

It was a wholly disappointing clash for Rangers with one Ibrox star in particular being singled out for criticism by Kris Boyd in the post-match.
