Rangers are preparing to launch a new bid for Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson handed in a transfer request, but a new report claims the Gers “won’t be held to ransom” by the Latics over the wantaway defender.
The Daily Record claims the Gers are set to make a new offer after seeing a bid of £400,000 rejected before Edmundson handed in a transfer request when the Latics turned it down.
There’s been no shortage of interest in signing Edmundson this summer as he enters the final year of his Oldham contract with Stoke City, Hull, Wigan and Derby County all keeping tabs on him.
Edmundson was named in the EFL League Two Team of the Year this season after a string of impressive performances for Oldham – despite the club suffering their worst league finish in 50 years.
With only two recognised senior central defenders at Ibrox, Gerrard needs to make sure he gets at least one more in the door quickly.
Losing Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley will leave the Light Blues short on bodies with nobody from the Academy sides really ready to push on and challenge at the minute.
While Oldham want to maximise what they can get back from selling Edmundson, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see a compromise reached before too long and the 21-year-old head north.
