Rangers legend Arthur Numan has thrown his weight behind “fantastic” Steven Gerrard and insists he is “100 per cent” behind the Ibrox boss.

Gerrard had come in for criticism before the enforced shutdown saw football put on hold but Numan insists he’s happy for Gerrard to get another season in charge.

The Dutchman insists he has similar traits as manager that he showed as a player and is adamant he gives “110 per cent.”

“So far he is doing a good job and the board should be happy to have someone like him as their manager,” Numan told TalkSport, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“Am I fully behind him for another season? Definitely, 100 per cent.

“As a player on the park, he would always give 110 per cent for the jersey.

“He was like a winner, fantastic captain for the whole team and I think he’s doing the same at Rangers.”

Gerrard’s side had reached the last 16 of the Europa League before the shutdown, although their domestic form had really let them down in recent weeks.

While Gerrard has come in for criticism, it never seemed likely he wouldn’t remain in charge long-term and push for silverware.

As he gets set for his third season in charge though, he needs to get his hands on a trophy sooner rather than later or the pressure will start to tell.
