Rangers News Round Up: A Busy Week That Isn't Finished Yet...

Since our last round up of rumours and news, it’s been a busy week. Two friendlies in Florida were followed up by two signings to further enhance the squad. The acquisitions of Cummings and Martin, both on loan to begin with, were welcomed by the majority of the support. It would seem that Rangers still have targets in mind, though. Here are some of the names and rumours of recent days.

GREG DOCHERTY

It’s been reported that Rangers have had an offer rejected for Docherty in recent days. There are rumours that the club have went in with a second offer, and that the player will be signed for around £700k. It remains to be seen if that comes to fruition, but what is certain is that Rangers are not going to just step away from this one.

JORDAN JONES

The rejection of the bid for Jones caused far more drama than it should have. Reactions of the Kilmarnock manager and Kris Boyd have dragged this one into a potential mud-slinging situation. Thankfully, Rangers are unlikely to get involved in that side of things. Whilst I believe the offer Rangers made was a little low, I also don’t think the player is worth what Kilmarnock are asking. It’ll be interesting to see if Rangers go back with an improved offer.

JACK HENDRY

Through a Twitter account best known for posting absolute nonsense, there was a suggestion Rangers had agreed a fee for Jack Hendry. This would seem to be yet more fabrication. Hendry is most likely to end up a Celtic player by the end of this month.

TYLER ROBERTS

The move for Roberts was already common knowledge. However, quite a few media outlets are reporting that he’s close to signing the pre-contract deal with us. Roberts looks to have a lot of potential, and could be a shrewd signing if it goes through.

In terms of players being linked with moves out of the club, there’s not a lot to report. Rumours of Alves moving to Qatar are just that at the moment. The player has been quoted as saying he’d like to stay at Rangers in the short term. The bids which were rejected for Josh Windass don’t seem to have been followed up, suggesting that the Rangers asking price has put teams off. There will be a number of players Rangers would entertain bids for as they look to refine the squad, but nothing has been reported of late.

Graeme Murty has confirmed that the club are considering offering Danny Wilson and Josh Windass new contracts. The latter still have some time on his current deal, but recent form will see him looking for improved terms. There are suggestions that James Tavernier isn’t willing to sign a new deal, but the club haven’t made any comment on that.
