Rangers hero bizarrely blamed for Celtic star's injury after Old Firm win

Celtic star Ryan Christie had to undergo emergency groin surgery after Sunday’s Old Firm win at Parkhead – but one newspaper has ridiculously claimed his injury was sustained after Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos ‘lashed out’.

The Daily Mail reports that the Celtic ace went to hospital almost immediately after being substituted on Sunday after an anonymous performance for Neil Lennon’s side and The Sun have followed that up by using a year-old picture of Morelos as proof.

To anyone who briefly glances at it, it looks as though the Colombian has been caught bang to rights however there’s one massive problem with it.

Both Morelos and Christie are wearing last season’s kits and Anthony Ralston (currently on loan at St. Johnstone) is also in the picture, which also looks to have been taken at Ibrox rather than Celtic Park.

There’s absolutely nothing which suggests Morelos did ‘lash out’ at Christie or that the Ibrox talisman has any part in the Celtic midfielder’s injury.

Even more bizarrely, the image used by the Sun shows Morelos grabbing for Christie’s crotch yet it was the Celtic player who was guilty of that on Sunday as TV images showed Christie hitting the Rangers star in the sensitive area and avoiding punishment by the woeful Kevin Clancy.

Perhaps there’s a simple explanation and the Sun couldn’t find any images of the apparent flashpoint and struggled to take a screengrab showing it taking place during the match.

Then again, it’s probably quite hard to find images of something that never happened.
