Rangers defender Borna Barisic has hailed Gers team-mate Alfredo Morelos after his record-breaking double in the 2-2 draw with Feyenoord – and admits the Colombian can only get better.
Morelos netted two fantastic headers to put the Gers within touching distance of the last 32 of the Europa League and Barisic is delighted for the free-scoring star.
The Croatia international put Morelos in the same bracket as his international team-mate and Juventus star Mario Mandzukic as he praised his performance in Rotterdam.
“What more can say about Alfredo? He’s a top player. He scores with his left foot, right foot and with his head. It was a top performance from him,” Barisic said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He’s on a really high level and he scored two nice goals with his head.
I’ve played with good strikers for Croatia like Mario Mandzukic and Bruno Petkovic from Dinamo Zagreb.
“I can’t single one of them out but they are really top players. It’s hard to compare because Alfredo and Mandzukic are two different type of players.
“Alfredo can only get better in the future but right now he’s a top player who not only scores in almost every game but important goals in important games and I’m very happy for him.”
Morelos goals took him to 25 for the season and the Colombian smashed both the club record for most consecutive European games scored in with four and the Scottish record for most European goals in a single campaign as he took his tally to 13.
His second goal, in particular, was absolutely sublime and it was Barisic’s cross which picked out the striker to split two defenders and head into the far corner and put Rangers 2-1 in front.
The Colombian has made phenomenal improvements to his game over the last 18 months and he is surely destined for the top if he continues as he is.
