Rangers reportedly set for 'lengthy loan' for Sporting midfielder

Rangers are “making a move” for Portuguese midfielder Miguel Luís on loan from Sporting Lisbon, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

According to Nixon, the Gers are looking at a possible “lengthy loan” for the Portuguese under-21 international as they look to strengthen for the second half of the season.

The 20-year-old has made 21 appearances for Sporting, seven of them coming this season, but he hasn’t featured since last month.

The Gers have already moved on a number of players this month with Eros Grezda, Andy King, Eduardo Herrera and Jamie Murphy among those leaving.

Luis can play anywhere across the midfield and would offer an interesting alternative for Gerrard, with Jake Hastie also available again after his loan spell at Rotherham was cut short.

The possibility of a”lengthy loan” makes it an even more intriguing one as it could suggest there’s a possibility of a permanent move at the end of it.

With the transfer window closing on Friday, Ranger will need to move quickly to get a deal done for Luis and have him available for the weekend fixture with Aberdeen at Ibrox.

Luis would be Rangers’ first signing of the transfer window if he does arrive as Gerrard and Ross Wilson look to trim the bloated first-team squad at Ibrox.
