Ibrox cult hero Madjid Bougherra believes Rangers made a “very good choice” in appointing Steven Gerrard as manager – and thinks the Liverpool icon will be able to “attract the best” to the club.
Gerrard has made an impressive start to life in management over the last 18 months and Bougherra hailed the appointment of the former Champions League winner.
Bougherra, now managing Fujairah FC, thinks that Gerrard will be in tune with the mentality of the “new generation” of players as he continues to make huge strides at Ibrox.
“Rangers made a good choice in signing Gerrard,” Bougherra told the Daily Record.
He is a young manager with a modern football philosophy and identity. He’s doing very well. He’s close to the players, he knows their mentality, especially the new generation.
“He can stay as long as possible and in the future bring in even bigger players when the money is back because he can attract the best with his name and create a good project.
“It was a very good choice.”
There’s little doubt Gerrard has been a “very good choice” – although he’s still lacking in the one area he will be ultimately judged on; trophies.
If he can get some silverware soon then it wouldn’t be a surprise if clubs south of the border started showing some real interest in luring Gerrard away from Ibrox.
After saying he wants to return to see the Gers lift the league title, hopefully, Bougherra can see Gerrard guide Rangers to 55 sooner rather than later.
