Rangers loanee McCrorie dropped for Portsmouth defeat

Earlier in the week, a section of Portsmouth supporters criticised Ross McCrorie for his performance in the 2-2 draw with Burton Albion.

The 21-year-old has been shunted about by Pompey manager Kenny Jackett, turning out both in midfield and at right-back, during his short stint on the south coast.

On Saturday afternoon, there was no place for him in the starting XI.

The bluenose was left on the bench for the 3pm kick-off away at Wycombe Wanderers, as his adopted side looked to get back to winning ways.

Pompey were fancied for promotion before the season began, but that looks a long way off now.

Both sides had a man sent off, but the hosts edged it late on, through an Adebayo Akinfenwa penalty. The manager only made one change during 90 minutes, so McCrorie watched on from the sidelines as his team failed to win for the fifth successive league game.

Things certainly aren’t going according to plan so far for the Scotland U21 captain.

However, while the playoffs look a long way off from back in 20th spot, things are far from ruined on both a collective and individual front.

Just six games into his stint after a big move away from home, it may just be that it’s taking him a while to settle in.

There are still well over 30 games left in the league alone, and McCrorie has plenty of time to cement a spot in the team and to help turn the club’s fortunes around.
