Rangers linked with £1.5m transfer amid summer Ibrox signing exit links

Rangers have been linked with a move for Huddersfield Town left-back Ben Jackson amid January exit links surrounding summer signing Ridvan Yilmaz.

Yilmaz, 21, was signed in the summer for a reported £3.4m rising to £5m [Sky Sports] from Turkish outfit Besiktas but has been used sparingly by the Ibrox side as he settles into life in Scotland.

Despite the club’s insistence the player is not for sale, the Turkish international continues to be linked with a return to his home country with Trabzonspor and Galatasaray the names most prominently mentioned.

Now, Ben Jackson has reportedly appeared on Rangers’ radar and the links come at an interesting time given the situation with Ridvan Yilmaz.

It’s clear that Rangers view Borna Barisic as the club’s first choice in the position and should Ridvan eventually break into the side it may not be in the immediate future.

Ben Jackson poses an interesting option with the 21-year-old out of contract in 2024 and – according to Football Insider at least – available for a knockdown £1.5m fee.

That report claims Rangers are one of a number of club’s monitoring Ben Jackson’s situation heading into the January transfer window.

But whilst Jackson represents being another young left-back linked to the club, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst insists Ridvan Yilmaz is going nowhere.

‘“How many players do you see who sign for £70m or £80m who take time to adapt to their clubs?” Said Van Bronckhorst.

“Every time we have players who need time to adapt it seems to be considered a problem. It is not a problem.

“It is just the way we have to deal with different circumstances. That is very important. For him, it is different to Tom Lawrence or Rabbi Matondo. They are used to living in the UK so it is no problem for them.

“For him, it is a really big step. He needs to adapt to his new team mates, to a new playing style, new tactics. But, as I said, he is much closer now to playing and to starting than he was a couple of months ago. So for me there is no debate about loaning him out or anything. Nothing.”

Whilst Ridvan Yilmaz continues to be linked with the Rangers exit door, Ben Jackson has made 10 appearances for Huddersfield Town this season, scoring once.

Meanwhile, Rangers’ extensive injury list might not quite relent to the extent expected post World Cup.
