Rangers linked striker Kevin Nisbet scored his 23rd goal of the season for Dunfermline on Saturday afternoon, just hours before the Gers crashed out of the Scottish Cup at Hearts.
With Alfredo Morelos omitted from the squad due to a disciplinary issue and Florian Kamberi cup-tied, Steven Gerrard’s side lacked a focal point throughout the game.
Yet, earlier in the day, a player the Gers have reportedly scouted on multiple occasions this season [Glasgow Times], once again successfully led the line for Dunfermline.
Nisbet has been in inspired form throughout the Championship campaign after joining from Raith Rovers in the summer.
Between late October and the end of January, he netted a remarkable 15 times in 13 games and after two matches without a goal, he was back on the scoresheet this afternoon.
The forward opened the scoring in the first half as Dunfermline pulled off a shock win over runaway leaders Dundee United at East End Park.
After being picked out by a Kyle Turner cross in the 26th minute, he turned in a header to set the Pars on their way to three points.
His strike partner Jonathan Afolabi made the result safe with a second on the hour mark, and Nisbet came agonisingly close to a brace, seeing an effort from a tight angle strike the post.
On a day when the Gers got little change out of a Hearts side who are currently bottom of the Premiership, Nisbet dominated a defence who will almost certainly be playing top-flight football next season.
