Rangers have blown their chance to get back into the Scottish Premiership title race after a woeful 1-0 defeat at home to Hamilton tonight.

The Gers dominated much of the game but yet again lacked the killer edge needed before David Moyo’s 55th minute sucker-punch left them reeling.

There were four changes from the weekend Scottish Cup defeat as Gerrard brought Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi, Florian Kamberi and Alfredo Morelos back into the side to replace Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Greg Stewart and Ryan Kent.

With Celtic drawing at Livingston, it was a golden opportunity for the Light Blues to get back into the title race but they froze and there will now be serious questions asked of Gerrard and his side

Here’s how Steven Gerrard’s side performed against Hamilton as they watched any lingering title hopes disappear:

Allan McGregor – 6

One save in the first half. Great save in the build-up to the goal not a huge amount to do.

James Tavernier – 5

Got the chance to get forward much more and fired several crosses into the box with no takers. Should have scored after the break. Replaced with a knock 18 minutes from the end.

George Edmundson – 6

No problem with what Hamilton had to throw at Rangers as he marshalled most of the Accies attacks well. Bounced back well enough after his Tynecastle nightmare.

Conor Goldson – 4

Composed performance at the back from Goldson before he had a nightmare and handed Accies the opener on a plate. Absolute madness from the defender.

Borna Barisic – 6

Like Tavernier, Barisic got forward regularly but crosses had similar success as the captain as the Gers struggled to find the breakthrough. Some really good balls in did find their target though as Rangers chased the game.

Steven Davis – 6

A bit more like it from the veteran as he controlled the tempo in midfield for long spells but needs to take more responsibility when things aren’t going Rangers’ way.

Glen Kamara – 5

Back in the side after an injury to Jack and Arfield but took a while to get going. Didn’t impose himself on the game enough. Replaced by Kent after Hamilton scored. Wasn’t particularly missed when he went off.

Joe Aribo – 6

Some really lovely footwork from the Nigerian created a few opportunities and looks to be getting more confidence in his ability to control games. Showing more prowess at the other side of the game too.

Ianis Hagi – 5

Floated in and out of the game. Didn’t offer enough tonight and needs to step up more in games like this when Rangers are toiling.

Florian Kamberi – 6

Really put himself about and had several chances to open the scoring in the first half but nowhere near effective after the break. Replaced by Defoe after 65 minutes.

Alfredo Morelos – 5

Another who flitted in and out of the game. Didn’t impose himself enough but did have a couple of chances to get on the scoresheet.

Substitutes: Ryan Kent (5) On for Kamara as Rangers chased the game. Jermain Defoe (5) Replaced Kamberi with 25 minutes left. Brandon Barker (4) Late replacement for Tavernier
