Rangers secured a historic away goals win against Young Boys to win their first-ever UEFA Youth League tie – and Gers fans on Twitter are delighted to see them reach the next round.

After a 3-3 draw in Switzerland three weeks ago, the young Gers secured a 2-2 draw at Firhill last night to book a clash with Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava next month in the second round.

Goals from Nathan Young-Coombes and Daniel Finlayson twice pegged back strikes from Nico Maier as Graeme Murty’s side impressed in front of a bumper crowd.

The Gers qualified for the competition after winning last season’s CAS under-18 league and have shown plenty of quality in both games so far – despite failing to win either over 90 minutes.

After the disappointment of conceding an injury-time winner in the first leg, Rangers were the better side over the course of the return leg and 2-2 probably flattered Young Boys a little.

The result is another huge step in the right direction for the Gers Academy and huge praise must go to the Craig Mulholland, Murty and the staff at the Hummel Training Centre.

Fans on Twitter were full of praise for the young Gers after the away goals win – with one saying it was proof the club have one of the best youth set-ups anywhere in Europe.
