Rangers fans react to Youth Cup hammering of Celtic

Rangers fans have celebrated on social media following the Scottish Youth Cup hammering of Celtic on Sunday afternoon.

The Young Gers dispatched their arch-rivals 5-0 at Broadwood to progress to the third round, in what was an assertion of dominance at Academy level.

A Leon King strike from the edge of the penalty area ensured Rangers had a 1-0 lead going into half-time, before goals from Nathan Young-Coombes, Ross McCausland, Kai Kennedy and Ciaran Dickson, put the Hoops to the sword.

This was a re-run of last season’s final, which the Gers edged 3-2 courtesy of a late winner from former Chelsea youngster Young-Coombes, so it’s impressive that there was such a clear gulf between the teams this time around.

“It’s fantastic, the goals were great…we were talking about Leon’s but Kai scoring that one was equally as good,” coach David McCallum told Rangers.co.uk.

“There’s not a lot we can say other than we are delighted, we are looking forward to the next round, we’ll enjoy tonight because I think the lads have earned that result today so a lot of credit to them.”

In the midst of a battle for the title at first-team level, the scoreline has brought Bears some welcome bragging rights.

When the Rangers Youth Academy account tweeted the final score, the post gained plenty of attention, racking up close to 6000 likes and over 100 comments.
