The Gers came back to beat Leicester City in the quarter-finals before Andy Dallas scored the only goal of the game in the semis to set up another meeting with Newcastle and a shot at revenge for last year.
Despite surging into a 2-0 lead, Rangers needed a last-minute goal to take it to extra-time before Owen Bailey’s goal sealed the win for the Geordies.
It’s been a fantastic season for the various Academy sides this year with success at home and abroad and, although they fell at the last hurdle, the Hong Kong trip has again shown the quality coming through at Ibrox.
Gers fans on Twitter were delighted with how the side performed in Hong Kong – with one fan saying they had “done the club proud.”
