Rangers teen Nathan Patterson could come into the starting XI for tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen at Ibrox – and Gers fans are delighted they could get to see him get his chance in the first-team.

Steven Gerrard confirmed earlier that James Tavernier would be given until the last minute to prove his fitness after missing the win over Ross County but has Patterson and Matt Polster in reserve if needed.

“If Tavernier is not passed fit for the match we have both Polster in the squad and young Patterson who are available if required,” Gerrard said, as quoted by the club’s Twitter account.

Fans on Twitter want to see Patterson given the chance to impress if Tav fails to overcome the foot injury that kept him out of the trip to Dingwall – and weren’t shy in making their feelings known, preferring the youngster to Polster as Tavernier’s replacement.

Patterson has only made one first-team appearance so far – against Stranraer in the cup – but has been on the bench for a few first-team games now this season.
