The agent of Rangers defender Borna Barisic has claimed the Gers ‘won’t be able to keep him’ this summer after his performances for the Light Blues – and Gers fans on Twitter are torn over whether to keep him or cash in.
After a difficult first season at Ibrox, the Croatian international has become an indispensable player for Steven Gerrard’s side and Ives Cakarun has claimed he’ll be likely moving on this summer.
“Rangers won’t be able to keep Borna after the season he’s had, even though he’s just signed a new contract,” Cakarun said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Borna’s priority right now is Rangers, who have made significant progress this season under the management of Steven Gerrard.
“They value Borna a lot and wanted to win something with him because Rangers haven’t won a trophy for a long time.
“But after the season is over and given the demand for Borna, Rangers are sure to start considering new offers. It will be a completely new position for Borna.”
There has been interest in Barisic from several clubs in Italy, notably AC Milan, Roma and Napoli, and it would almost certainly cost a hefty transfer fee to convince Rangers to part ways with him.
The defender only recently signed a new deal which should keep him in Glasgow until 2024 and Rangers could always look to cash in and reinvest the money in the squad over the summer.
