Rangers fans react as club announce friendly against Lokomotiv Tashkent

On Thursday afternoon, Rangers announced plans for a friendly against Lokomotiv Tashkent ahead of the return from the winter break.

The two clubs will face off in the Sevens Stadium in Dubai on 11th January.

The news comes as something as a surprise, with previous rumours suggesting that if the Gers were to play a friendly, it would be against German club Hamburg [Four Lads Had a Dream]

However, Steven Gerrard has insisted the game will serve as a proper runout for his players.

“We are looking forward to the game against Lokomotiv Tashkent at the end of our warm-weather training camp in Dubai,” the manager told Rangers.co.uk.

”The match will be an important part of our preparations for the second half of the season and we expect it to be a competitive friendly and good test for our squad.”

Lokomotiv finished second in the 2019 edition of the Uzbekistan Super League, a full 20 points behind league winners Pakhtakor [Soccerway]. The club was founded in 2002 and the first-team squad consists mainly of Uzbekistani players.

It’s not quite the glamour tie that some fans were hoping for, but at least the Gers will definitely be playing a fixture before the return to domestic action against Stranraer on 17th January.
