There has been a very mixed reaction from Rangers fans on social media after the club announced that Jake Hastie had been recalled from his loan stint with Rotherham United.

The 20-year-old winger was due to stay with the Millers for the duration of the season but in a statement released via on Tuesday morning, it was asserted that the two clubs came to a ‘mutual agreement’ to terminate the deal.

Hastie played twice for the Gers after joining from Motherwell in the summer, before heading south of the border in search of playing time.

However, he failed to score after that opening burst and eventually fell out of favour.

His last league start under Paul Warne came on the 14th December in a 2-2 draw at Southend United.

Plenty of Gers have pointed to his inability to hold down a spot at Rotherham, as evidence that he isn’t good enough to make an impact upon his return to Ibrox.

However, others have suggested that given the failings of the clubs other wide players, like Sheyi Ojo, Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker – none of whom have scored since September – that Hastie’s return could prove an excellent move.
