Rangers fans have reacted to the news that Kevin Clancy has been announced as the referee for Sunday’s Premiership clash against Celtic.

The Gers take on Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Boxing Day before a hotly anticipated trip to Parkhead for the third Old Firm of the season.

Steven Gerrard’s side are still unbeaten away from home in the league, and will at the very least be hoping to carry that record over to the New Year.

Clancy will be the man attempting to make sure things don’t boil over on the day, with David McGeachie and Dougie Potter appointed as linesmen and Nick Walsh, who refereed Friday night’s clash against Hibernian, the fourth official.

36-year-old Clancy has been on the FIFA international list of refs since for seven years, and he officiated the Gers’ 2-0 win over the Hoops at Ibrox in April.

He came under major scrutiny earlier from both Neil Lennon and Paul Heckingbottom earlier in the season for waving away penalty claims from both sides during a 1-1 draw at Easter Road.

He didn’t do Celtic many favours that day, but it’s safe to say that not all Rangers fans are thrilled with his appointment, either.
