Rangers fans not impressed with Andy Halliday's performance v East Fife

Rangers star Andy Halliday was named as captain in James Tavernier’s absence for the Scottish League Cup win over East Fife – and Rangers fans were not happy with his performance as they secured a 3-0 win over the Fifers.

Halliday is no stranger to criticism from fans but has won them over in recent months with a string of composed displays at left-back under Steven Gerrard and has been touted by some as who should be first-choice at left-back.

However, he had a howler against the Fifers as the Gers booked their place in the last-eight of the Betfred Cup with a 3-0 win.

Fans were less than impressed with how he seemed to revert to the Halliday of old who was shipped out on to Azerbaijan.

Despite his poor performance, Gers manager Gerrard left him on for the full 90 minutes – possibly saying more about Borna Barisic’s future than anything else – as the Light Blues secured their place in the next round of the cup.

On Twitter, fans were quick to voice their unhappiness, with one saying he had been having a “shocker” and another wondering what the reaction would have been like had Barisic put in a similar performance.

Hopefully, it’s just an off-day for Halliday and he can quickly get back on form and show why he’s turned into one of the players Gerrard has really seemed to put his faith in.
