Rangers Europa League success praised by former coach

Rangers progressed to the quarter-finals of the Europa League last night following a 4-2 aggregate win over Red Star Belgrade as the Ibrox side continued their Euro progression.

The result was praised all over social media as Rangers made the last eight of a major European competition for the first time since 2008, with one man’s praise standing out.

Michael Beale, the former Rangers coach, tweeted a congratulatory message to all the players and staff following the result, one to which he arguably contributed.

Former Rangers coach Michael Beale congratulates the Ibrox side following Europa League progression

When Steven Gerrard arrived at Rangers alongside Beale as his first-team coach in the summer of 2018, it came against the backdrop of arguably our worst ever result.

Who will forget the defeat at the hands of Progrès Niederkorn in July 2017 and Pedro Caixinha arguing with fans in a hedge? That result summed up the club during the spell from 2012 to 2018 and change was needed.

Beale and Gerrard got the Ibrox side through four rounds of qualifiers two years in a row to ensure group stage football was achieved and have undoubtedly built the blocks from which Gio can carve the artistic creation.

It’s touching to know he still cares about the club and that it remains in his heart despite the controversy Gerrard caused by moving to Aston Villa and taking his backroom team with him.

Regardless of this, we can all rejoice in the fact Rangers continue to impress on the continent, and who knows where we might go, could it be a repeat of Manchester 2008? The next couple of months will be very interesting.

Meanwhile, former Rangers star Mikel Arteta is on the wish list for the managerial role at PSG, which could give the Ibrox side an unusual transfer boost.
