Former Rangers star Carlos Cuellar is set to make his Ibrox return, 11 years after leaving the Gers to join Aston Villa when a Rangers Legends side face Liverpool at Ibrox on October 12th.
Gers icon Richard Gough – who will captain the Gers on the day – confirmed Cuellar would be involved alongside Alan Hutton and Clint Hill as a host of big names pull on their boots one more time.
The Spaniard was a huge favourite with Gers fans as he played a crucial role in the run to the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester, appearing in 65 games that season.
Cuellar would lift the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year awards as he wowed fans with a stunning debut season.
A clause in his contract would allow him to leave the Gers and sign for Aston Villa for £7.8million in a move which left many Gers fans devastated after he had declared he wanted to remain at Ibrox for life just a few months earlier.
Cuellar is likely to come up against one of the most iconic strikers in his homeland’s history with Fernando Torres set to join the likes of Patrik Berger, Luis Garcia and Jason McAteer in the Liverpool side.
There’s also a return to the pitch for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as he pulls on his famous number eight shirt again for Liverpool – although what are the chances of the man famed for wearing red turns out in wearing blue for a spell?
