Rangers could yet be reunited with one-time Ibrox Covid badboy Brian Kinnear at Hampden this season, after the goalkeeper swapped West Ham for Falkirk.

The ex-Gers stopper was part of the infamous Covid Five who breached regulations in early 2021 and wound up being suspended by the Scottish Football Association.

Brian Kinnear joined Ibrox duo Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey – who went on the break the club’s transfer record in back-to-back deals – as well as Dapo Mebude and Bongani Zungu.

Whilst the player would never play for the Ibrox side, the now 22-year-old would eventually move on a free transfer to West Ham following the expiration of his contract the following summer.

But after two years with the Hammers, Brian Kinnear is back in Scotland and Rangers fans may have one eye on the player’s progress in the Scottish Cup whilst on loan at Falkirk.

Brian Kinnear joins Falkirk with Scottish Cup glory in sights

Falkirk signed Brian Kinnear on loan from West Ham in the January transfer window and the player has gone straight into the number one slot at the club.

Kinnear even played in the 2-1 Scottish Cup quarter final victory over Ayr United, which was won by a strike from Rangers loanee Kai Kennedy.

The Bairns join Rangers, Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the semi-finals of the tournament, with the League One side to play their Championship counterparts Caley Thistle for a place in the Hampden showpiece.

That means Brian Kinnear and co will have to overcome Billy Dodds’ side to earn a shot at the silverware, whilst Rangers will need to overcome Old Firm rivals Celtic.

It’s a couple of big ifs but if this is to happen, then Rangers would likely come up against Brian Kinnear in the Falkirk goal come the end of the season at Hampden.

If the latest reports are to be believed too, West Ham have already made a big Brian Kinnear call ahead of the summer.
