Following the impressive 2-0 win over Stranraer in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup the Rangers Colts will travel to Northern Ireland to face Ballymena United.
Graeme Murty’s side booked their place in the third round of the tournament after the solid victory on the Scottish west coast.
The young Gers side will now travel to Northern Ireland on the weekend of September 7th/8th in an exciting trip for the club’s Academy.
The tournament provides the Rangers Colts, and other colt teams across the country, to compete at a senior level and earn vital match experience.
This will serve them well as they hope to develop into full adult players and make an impression on their respective first term sides.
After last night’s victory over Stranraer, Colts boss Graeme Murty spoke to Rangers.co.uk.
“I am very proud of the players I thought they represented themselves and the club very very well against a team that put us under a lot of pressure with some good quality play, some physical tests, and a challenge all the way through the game,” said Murty.
“I have to give credit to our opponents who hosted us really well on a great pitch and you could actually see learning taking place on the pitch for our young players.
“To manage that and to get to the level they managed to get to at times and to come away with a win I am really really proud.”
The match also saw the return of Albanian international Eros Grezda to a Rangers side, but despite playing 83 minutes with the Colts, his future at Ibrox looks increasingly bleak.
