Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has joined Swansea City on loan after the Blues recalled the reported Rangers target from a loan stint at Charlton.
The teenager was linked with a move to Ibrox after catching the eye at The Valley but will now head for Wales where he will link up with another former Rangers target in Liverpool loanee Rhian Brewster.
Gallagher made 25 league appearances for the Addicks, scoring six goals and registering three assists, leaving Charlton boss Lee Bowyer disappointed at the news Chelsea had recalled him.
Swansea are currently seventh in the Championship and Gallagher will now go from battling relegation with Charlton to aiming for promotion to the Premier League with the Swans.
The 19-year-old was attracting a host of interest before opting for Swansea, with former Rangers boss Mark Warburton among those reportedly chasing Gallagher, according to Goal.com.
Burnley, Norwich, West Bromwich Albion and Milwall were all also apparently keen on Gallagher but, like Rangers, missed out on the teenager.
A move to Ibrox did seem a little unlikely at this stage with the chances of regular action for the England youth international appearing slim thanks to the form of Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara.
Rangers already have the likes of Scott Arfield and Greg Docherty trying to force their way into the starting XI and the competition for places was a big reason behind Andy King’s loan being cut short.
