Music icon Rod Stewart has praised Rangers and Celtic after a “wonderful night” for both teams in the Europa League as both sides picked up fantastic results against Porto and Lazio, respectively.
The Gers came away from Porto with a 1-1 draw, and arguably could’ve had more, while Celtic got past Lazio with a 2-1 win at Parkhead.
That prompted the rocker to get in touch with the Daily Record to congratulate both sides and laud their achievments against two quality continental sides.
“Forget the great divide for just a moment,” Stewart told the Daily Record.
This was a wonderful night for Scottish football. Well done the Gers and well done the Celts.”
The results leave both sides in with a good chance of qualifying from their groups and continues to boost the Scottish coefficient.
With Celtic playing after the Gers on Thursday and kicking off first tomorrow, hopefully there’s something of a European hangover when they face Aberdeen.
Such tight margins at the top of the league table mean the slightest advantage can help and Rangers will take every boost they can in the race for the league flag.
