Daniel Candeias in Instagram row with fan over Rangers exit

Former Rangers star Daniel Candeias has become involved in a social media spat with a Rangers fan after being told the Gers “don’t need or want” players like the Portuguese winger at Ibrox.
The winger left the Gers last month to sign for Genclerbirigli in Turkey and posted on his Instagram ahead of their opening league game of the season.

That saw several former Gers such as Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves wish him well for the new campaign – before one ‘fan’ tried to make things personal.
After being asked why he left by one supporter, another jumped in saying he “didnt want to fight for a place. Dont need or want players like that at Ibrox.”
That prompted a reaction from Candeias, in Portuguese, which translates to “Shut up – you don’t know what it’s like to fight for that jersey. Comments like this are very frustrating.”

While Candeias’ comment might seem a little blunt on first reading, it’s an understandable response from a player who was generally very popular with fans.

Few could doubt his work-rate and application – or even his reasons for leaving after being told he wasn’t guaranteed regular games – and the comment from the purported fan was treated with the contempt it deserved.

He might not have been pushing Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or, but plenty of players could take a leaf out of Candeias’ book with the amount of effort he puts in – including some of his now-former Rangers team-mates.
