Rangers boss confirms contract talks as Premier League giants circle Ibrox teen

Rangers manager Gio van Bronckhorst is hopeful of “positive news” over Alex Lowry’s Ibrox future after the teenage star was linked with Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Gio confirmed that talks are underway to extend the midfielder’s contract beyond the end of next season amid suggestions that his agent has held talks with the Premier League giants.

Van Bronckhorst was full of praise for Lowry and thinks the Scotland youth international will be an “important” player for the club in the future, saying: “Alex is one of the big talents we have coming through from the Academy and we are in talks for him to sign a new contract because I think he will be an important player for the future of this club. Talks are in process so hopefully, we will have positive news in the coming weeks.”

The prospect of losing Lowry is one Gers fans aren’t happy about and supporters are keen to see him tied down as soon as possible.

After making his first-team debut earlier this season, Lowry has impressed and pushed himself to the fringes of the senior squad.

Having lost the likes of Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson with varying financial results, if Rangers are going to lose Lowry in the future, hopefully, it’s closer to Patterson’s fee than Gilmour’s.

The midfielder has shown he has a really promising future ahead of him but keeping him at Ibrox for as long as possible needs to be high on Rangers’ priority list this summer.
