Barton admits that the on-loan Rangers midfielder has had a “tough spell” recently but was “really pleased” to see him get on the scoresheet against Plymouth.
The Fleetwood boss thinks players like Holt are a “delight” to have around as he “gives everything” all the time.
“He has had a tough spell and came out the team. Since he has gone back in his energy levels have been superb,” Barton told Fleetwood Today.
“I’m delighted for him to get the goal. Whatever people think of him, he is something who gives everything he has got in every single training session, every single week.
“Players like that are a delight to have. For him to get the goal and get us on that march to settling into the game I was really pleased for him.”
Holt has fallen out of favour at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard after being a regular under previous managers.
The midfielder headed south in the summer on a season-long loan deal and is due to return to Ibrox at the end of the season.
With a year left on his contract with the Gers, it may well be the case that they look to move him on as quickly as possible.
