Six young Rangers stars have been named in Billy Stark’s Scotland under-19 squad for two friendlies against Czech Republic in Spain later this month.

James Maxwell, Nathan Patterson, Ciaran Dickson, Kai Kennedy, Dapo Mebude and Josh McPake will travel to Pinatar in two weeks time for the back-to-back fixtures against the Czechs.

All six are likely to be involved for Rangers Colts a few days earlier when they face Inverness Caley Thistle in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup.

The number of young Rangers players involved is a massive sign that the work being done by the club’s Academy staff is helping to produce players who can challenge for first-team places.

Dickson was on the scoresheet yesterday for the Colts in the 1-1 draw with Celtic in the City of Glasgow Cup as his late strike salvaged a point for the Light Blues against their bitter rivals.

Several of the young Gers called up to Billy Stark’s squad have first-team experience with Patterson, Mebude, Kennedy and McPake all having made their senior Rangers debuts under Steven Gerrard.

The first match between Scotland under-19s is on Tuesday, 18 February at the Hotel La Finca Resort in Alicante, before another game two days later – with the kick-off time still to be confirmed.
