Former Celtic keeper Rab Douglas has opened up on talks about a potential move to Ibrox before he signed for Celtic – and admitted he turned it down as he wasn’t going to play regularly as Stefan Klos was undisputed number one.
Douglas was lined up as short-term cover for Klos after the German was injured but Douglas was told he’d be back on the bench once he recovered.

The former Scotland international admitted that wasn’t’ enough for him and also told the response of then-Rangers chairman David Murray when he heard of the keeper’s stance.
“I never spoke to Rangers directly, they got in touch with Peter Marr. It was 850 for me and I was told I would play six games, Klos was going to be injured for six games, and then I’d be back on the bench.”
Douglas told Open Goal.

“Hodgy (Alan Hodgkinson) was obviously the national coach I’d had conversations with being in some of the B squads with and he was keen to work with me but for me my principle was I just wanted to play.

“I’d been used to playing at Livingston and Dundee. Blair (his agent) wrote back and David Murray’s words were any unhappy player at Rangers can f*** off’.”
Douglas won three titles at Celtic as well as representing Scotland 19 times but was never likely to have displaced Klos as number one at Ibrox.

The German goalkeeper was phenomenal for long spells during his time with Rangers and is one of the best to have played in Scotland over the last few decades.
If Douglas wasn’t going to be happy playing second-fiddle to such a talented goalkeeper then David Murray’s advice was right.
