Pundit claims Rangers in talks with Zamalek striker Mohamed

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, an Egyptian TV pundit has asserted that Rangers are in talks with Zamalek star Mostafa Mohamed.

The 22-year-old attacker has two caps for the Egyptian national team and is playing regularly in the top-flight for his club side this season following a series of loan spells.

“I know for a fact Mohamed has options in European football most notably from Glasgow Rangers,” said Haytham Farouk, a former player turned prominent media figure, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has already sent a delegate from his club to speak with him. They were attracted to him because of his performances in the Under 23s Cup of Nations.

“I think it would be a great move for him to go to a club like Rangers. It’s important when he does move to European football he takes the right steps with the right club.”

He then went on to refer to the young attacker as “one of the most exciting talents in African football right now.”

Verdict

The supposed interest is something of a bolt from the blue, and we don’t know a great deal about Mohamed at this stage.

In terms of his profile, he’s 6ft 1″, suggesting a decent physical presence, and is valued at £540k [Transfermarkt].

His stats aren’t exactly mind-blowing, though. He currently has just two goals and one assist in nine appearances in all competitions.

As we head toward the January transfer window, there is a chance the Gers will look to strengthen up front. The manager currently only has two senior strikers to choose from in Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe and admitted in the summer that he would possibly feel more comfortable with an additional option [Scotsman].

Meanwhile, another striker linked with the Gers has continued his red-hot form.
